Day 9 – This is the best minty, candy cane shortbread recipe

Estimated read time 3 min read

Shortbread is usually associated with the Christmas holiday season. And so are candy canes. Put them both together and what do you get? Christmas-y yumminess! ( I have no idea if Christmas-y or yumminess are the best words for SEO but whether they rank high on Google’s keywords or not, they are the best words to describe this shortbread variation!) This was another variation suggested by my fellow kitchen experimenter. The crunchy and minty taste of the candy canes compliments the smooth, creamy, buttery sweetness of the classic shortbread.

Day 8 – Try this creamy PB and J shortbread recipe

You can never go wrong with peanut butter and jelly so why not include it in shortbread? I see no reason not to and neither did my fellow kitchen experimenter who suggested this variation. It does have the character of a peanut butter cookie, only creamier and a bit of moisture and taste from the jelly or jam of your choosing. It’s a very creamy, moist, crumbly cookie perfect with a hot drink on a cold night.

Day 6 – Try this Cheddar and Chive shortbread recipe for savory alternative to the classic

Estimated read time 3 min read

Cookies always seem to be sweet and shortbread is no exception. As I was dreaming up shortbread variations I wanted to try some less sweet or savory variations. So of course I went to Pinterest to see what was out there for savory cookie recipes. I noticed a lot of cheese added to cookies, herbs and spices. So I decided to give it a try and came up with a few cheesy shortbread variations including this cheddar and chive shortbread recipe. Depending on how cheesy you like your cookies, adjust the amount of cheese. The cheese does make the dough stickier but it’s worth it at the end!

Day 5 – Try this great fruit and nut variation in a cranberry almond shortbread recipe

Estimated read time 4 min read

Last summer I visited the Maritimes, Canada for the first time. While there I did a lot of walking and noticed that Maritimers know how to bake! One week in particular in Saint John, New Brunswick, I did a lot of walking each day and each day I stopped a different bakery taking it upon myself to sample their baking. On one particular day I stopped in at this littler bakery and found this cookies. I don’t exactly recall what they were, whether they were a shortbread or a sugar cookie or just a plain butter cookie but they had cranberries in them and possibly some nuts as well. But what I do remember were the cranberries and how amazing they tasted! I’m not a big fan of cranberries so these were particularly memorable and left a lasting impression.
