The subtle art of tea packaging can make a difference

I enjoy tea and loose leaf tea in particular.  Since Covid hit the experience of going into a tea shop and smelling different teas, seeing the leaves up close and learning and chatting with the owner or tea sommelier, trading stories and experiences is no longer there.  I never realized how big a part of the tea purchasing experience that human interaction was.  I have since purchased tea online and have been to a couple of tea shops since things have started slowly opening.  It’s still not the same.  We can’t smell and try the tea.  The exchange with the store owner and tea sommelier or blender is back.  Of the teas that I have purchased online, I bought from stores and brands I had been to in person pre-Covid.  So, I had a good idea what their tea quality and brand was about.   No real surprises.    The tea packaging was certainly different than when you buy directly from the store, but I never really gave it much thought.   The tea packaging that was delivered was a box, with pretty pouches of tea inside, with a card and/or coupon for more tea!

Recently I ordered from Firebelly Tea.  First, I had never heard of them.  (They are a new company, so how could I have heard of them! 😊) Second, I had never been to their store or seen their tea in person.  (They are new company, so how could I have seen their tea in person, and they only sell online. 😊)   When I received the tea packaging, I expected to find pretty pouches of tea in a box with a card or coupon.  Not quite.  It was an experience.

So how is tea packaged by Firebelly tea?  The first box flipped up open, greeting me with why the name Firebelly Tea.  Within that first flip top box were two other boxes.  One box for each tea I ordered.  The box within a box was a nice touch and surprise!  The tea boxes themselves were of a nice sturdy quality, so not something you’d necessarily throw away immediately. Now within each individual tea box was a pouch of tea.  It was like opening up a set of those nesting Russian dolls!  😊  Each package was so elegant with clean lines and simple lettering.  It was a nice experience and built up the excitement for the main event, the tea!  And every box and pouch is sustainable packaging.  Now, that’s an experience that is not there when purchasing tea in person.

The tea packaging and unboxing experience is not quite the same when you’ve already seen and smelt the tea.  It is so much appreciated when someone or some company takes the time to make it part of the experience of the purchase.

I enjoy learning and sharing that knowledge. Sharing has been in many forms over the years, as a teaching assistant, university lecturer, Pilates instructor, math tutor and just sharing with friends and family. Throughout, summarizing what I have learnt in words has always been there and continues to through blog posts, articles, video and the ever growing forms of content out there!
