My Visit to the Ottawa Organic Farmers Market

Estimated read time 2 min read

This past weekend I didn’t venture outside to any farmers markets but rather stayed in town. I made it to three different markets this past Saturday, and each with a different feel. The first stop on the farmers market run was the Ottawa organic farmers market. This past spring I came across the Ottawa organic farmers market on my way home from a fitness class on a Saturday morning. Little did I know that this farmers market is a year round market! It’s wonderful because there are fresh vegetables, spices, bread, meat and of course baked good all the time. I completely forgot about them once the weather improved and the other markets started.

During the colder months the market vendors set up inside the main hall of the church. But this past weekend, everyone was set up outside in beautiful sunshine. There were the usual assortment of baked goods, fresh product, jams and preserves and even a woman spinning her own yarn. I wish I got picture of that!.

I have a few comments about this market, there aren’t many vendors but for some reason they seem very spread out, which some by the front door of the church some more situated in the parking lot. It would be nice to see all the vendors in one place, like around the edge of the parking lot in the sun or everyone by the entrance to the church. There was one vendor that was quite slow. There were two people at the table but for whatever reason, it seemed as though only one person was talking and serving patrons and not doing a very quick job. I was a bit disappointed because I really wanted to buy some greens from them. The other thing I noticed was the prices, especially for baked goods, were a bit expensive. I ended up not buying anything but loved the atmosphere!

I enjoy learning and sharing that knowledge. Sharing has been in many forms over the years, as a teaching assistant, university lecturer, Pilates instructor, math tutor and just sharing with friends and family. Throughout, summarizing what I have learnt in words has always been there and continues to through blog posts, articles, video and the ever growing forms of content out there!
