This week I went to another farmers market. I have been going on Saturday mornings but this weekend was Father’s ay and with Dragon Boat practice on Sunday I decided to do the Father’s Day visit on Saturday which left Sunday morning for a farmer’s market. This week was the Stittsville farmers market cookies rather than just the farmers market! The journey there wasn’t as enjoyable as some of the other trips probably because it didn’t feel like I was leaving the city at all. The city is being built up so quickly and spreading out so much that I didn’t feel like I left at all.

The Stittsville farmers market is also referred to as At The Barn. I was expecting something a bit more grand and rural. Something was more land, barn like buildings, more rural. But it wasn’t rural at all. It was in a park with a small bandstand, play structures and a walking and bike path going through it. There was this wooden, barn-like looking building that included a few vendors. The rest of the vendors were set up around the park and the bandstand. There wasn’t as much produce but I’m starting to realize that this time of year is a bit early for produce. However, there have been a lot of baked goods, teas, maple syrup, crafts and more. I have seen micro breweries, microgreens, some plants and seedlings for sale at the farmers markets lately and the Stittsville farmers market was no different.

The Vendors

There are always a variety of vendors but I’m starting to see some familiar faces. There was the avocado tea vendor, Myavotea and the woman from Carleton place with the great peanut butter, chocolate squares, I wish I had gotten her name! But there were many other new ones I hadn’t seen before.

There was the woman who sold microgreens, Howie’s Mighty Microgreens. I never thought to ask who Howie was? Stittsville farmers market cookies are Judy’s tasty treats! They looked awesome and I have a bunch of them at home now! I tried a few different lattes courtesy of Pestle and Pods. I left their table with the turmeric latte. I’ll have to give it a try on my own tonight. There were a few others I met. The maple syrup lady, the jams, jellies and pickles lady. I bought a red pepper jelly from her that I’m looking forward to trying it!

Not sure where I’ll en up next weekend. I am thinking of venturing a little farther out of the city. Possibly the Kemptville farmers market. I have recently learnt about the Parkdale Night Market in Ottawa. This is a nice idea, a market that goes later in to the evening. Who knows!

I enjoy learning and sharing that knowledge. Sharing has been in many forms over the years, as a teaching assistant, university lecturer, Pilates instructor, math tutor and just sharing with friends and family. Throughout, summarizing what I have learnt in words has always been there and continues to through blog posts, articles, video and the ever growing forms of content out there!
